giant anteater

the greatest animal of all time. an absolute freak of nature with what is arguably the most ridiculous defensive design of all time. look at it. the thing looks ridiculous. why do its arms look like a panda? i've known not only predators but ADULTS doing challenging degrees be bamboozled and completely unable to find its head. imagine if your little jaguar babies are depending on you to kill this thing and eat it and you can't even find its head. useless.

even in the instance where the jaguar mother does find the head, it has the option of a fatal one-shot to either the head or the body, lest it enter into a mortal kombat style scrap with a ginormous bamboozling beast with 4-inch claws on its hands. the giant anteater walks like a chimpanzee (for crying out loud) with its fists curled, such that its claws only ever come into contact with termite mounds (which are essentially made of concrete) or another animal. these things are so sharp it's insane. not only do giant anteaters regularly kill large apex predators, they have been known to kill poachers in the past. i also once watched a giant anteater get kicked by a horse and it TANKED that shit.

they're also just wonderful spirits. they love to swim and play in water. they fold their ginormous tails over themselves to keep themselves warm while they sleep. despite the lack of a strong anteater social structure being arguably their only flaw, baby anteaters will stay with their mothers for a year or longer and ride on the back of the mother. this, to me, is awesome.

i've only been interested by anteaters for about 18 months and i think it is such a shame that many don't know their anteater from their aardvark. i have spent a lot of time obsessing over certain species of animal and can say with relative security that the giant anteater is the best one i have come across. this, in my eyes, is driven by the fact that it's not a beloved staple of the animal kingdom - and why? they're the best
